Presentation Folio Back

I started with the cardboard wrap/box that comes so conveniently wrapped around my 15X20" Crescent Board.  Once a piece is finished it needs a place to live until it is framed up for display.  So I thought it was so nice of the folks who make Crescent Board to package it in a very useful corrugated cardboard wrap.  I didn't open the new box when I started so I didn't have to worry about keeping the cardboard stiff enough to work on.  I wrapped the edges in duct tape for the durability it will provide.  I wanted to decorate what will become my "folio" and decided on this project design.  Tomorrow I will work on the other side.  I used modeling paste by Liquitex and applied it through a Daniela Wolfe StencilGirl Product design to get the giant swirl texture, I dried the modeling paste application then added some circles of cardboard from the ends of a spool of wide ribbon. Following the applied the surface textures I foiled the piece with silver aluminum foil.  I used metal embossing tools to texture the foil pressing it into the applied surface treatments getting a relief.  I used guilders paste in multiple colors to get the patinas.

This is the same work "AWL or Nothin'" I was staring at it and realized the two ovals were simply blank faces begging to be illustrated. I produced these rather folksy images. I found a story here. The black and white checkers brought to mind a Checkered Cab, maybe they will share the cab. All the abstraction of corrugated cardboard and movement is the rest of the world swirling around the two characters, his eyes are fixed on her, her gaze is coy reflecting back to the viewer. Looks like the first glance of romance to me.  Sappy love stories...but these two were right there telling me this boy meets girl tale. He's wearing a hoodie, she's wearing a white scarf tucked into her buttoned up coat. "It's AWL right there." Cute, not serious art, but, sometimes ya gotta go with the flow where it takes your crazy artist's brain.

AWL or Nothin'

AWL or Nothin' the packaging my AWL came got me started on this project. I was pulling paper off some corrugated cardboard and cutting up some squares of cardboard packaging for a "future project", I picked up another box to break it down and my new awl packaging caught my eye, you know how one thing leads to another. I pulled out some black and white deli paper and the October StencilGirl Stencil Club squares, texture paste and acrylic paint.

Pinwheel

StencilGirl Products stencil Daniella Woolf  # L128. On mixed media paper, using the stencil to apply flexible modeling paste, I came back with pastels, fixed with workable sealer repeating that process several times. I just did not like what I was getting and I started going dark, got it too dark, added back white gesso with a palate knife and dried it. Then I started adding acrylic paint until I got the results I was looking for.

Golden Ring

This one took me a while to bring it to a point where I was satisfied. But, perseverance won the day. The use of stencils was minimal but effective in this composition. Golden ring. Water color pencils on paper, stabillo pencils and gold paint marker. S152 Mayne and another small SencilGirl products
3X4" stencil were embedded into the design.

Cut Paper Collage

I used StencilGirl Products@ www.stencilgirlproducts.com to create the stenciled impressions on the cut applied papers. The substraight is cardstock the first layer is a Gelli plate I made a few weeks ago. I cut and appliqued the papers created with rolled acrylic paint. Many layers combined to make this composition. I used Stabillo pencils to highlight and shadow the shapes. The larger squares were streaked and smeared first by chance then by design with matte medium.
